Midreshet Tehillah
Curriculum

The Midreshet Tehillah curriculum emphasizes both the aggadic and halachic aspects of Torah. The aggadic portion of the curriculum is built around core classes with associated Beit Midrash time. Students prepare designated texts in chevruta-style learning with oversight by faculty members and tutors. The group then meets with the teacher to analyze the material together, place it in its proper context, and extract its broader implications. Chumash with commentaries, Midrash and Agadda, Navi with commentaries, and Mishlei with commentaries are all studied in this manner. These courses are supported by lecture and discussion-based classes in hashkafa, mussar, midot, prayer, history, and self-actualization. These classes, too, generally focus around a text.

The halachic portion of the curriculum is multidimensional. It is designed to ground students in the halachot necessary for everyday living, broaden their concept of the relevance of halacha to various aspects of life, teach them to think halachicly, and give them a sense of the deep roots which found halacha and the halachic process. Several classes are directed at developing students' awareness of the underlying integration between halacha and aggada.

An option is also available for students in Midreshet Tehillah to pursue independent research projects. Through oral presentations and written papers, students receive training in developing their ideas and communicating them to others.

Midreshet Tehillah guides students to understand their individual experience in the wider context of Jewish history while fostering individual thinking and commitment. As a result students are able to root themselves in the fullness of the Jewish people over historical time and, simultaneously, achieve their own personal connection to Torah, yirat shomayim, and avodat HaShem.

Many colleges and universities accept the credits of Midreshet Tehillah. It is recommended, however, that the student consults the registrar of the college she plans to attend to ascertain the college's policy. Upon request, a transcript for courses successfully completed at Midreshet Tehillah will be issued if the student is in good academic and financial standing.
