Maalot - FAQ
Who grants my B.A. degree?
Thomas Edison State College of New Jersey , which is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, awards our students a B.A. degree. The Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools accredits such schools as Columbia University, Queens College, Princeton University, Touro College, and Yeshiva University.
Why are Maalot Yerushalayim and Thomas Edison State College (TESC) partners?
Only TESC meets our students' need for flexibility. Most colleges require residency, US citizenship, and a high school diploma. Not TESC. Our students also benefit from the variety of career paths TESC offers and its recognition that today's student needs a tailored path towards a univeristy degree, not a one-size-fits-all program.
Is Maalot Yerushalayim really cost effective?
We are proud of the fact that we have succeeded in providing the highest quality B.A. degrees at the lowest cost. There is no competition. Our agreement with Thomas Edison ensures our students the lowest tuition option. In addition, our graduates can enter the workplace or graduate school two years earlier than those who studied at a traditional college.
What is the role of Maalot Yerushalayim in my degree acquisition?
We have designed our curriculum to offer an advanced education culminating in a B.A. degree within a supportive seminary environment. All our courses transfer to TESC. We work with each student on a personal plan designed to ensure that she meets her requirements within a desired timeframe. Students have often completed these requirements in less than one year.
Futhermore, a TESC degree through Maalot includes a Maalot transcript, which is an evaluation of a student's academic achievement. This transcript accompanies the student in her job or graduate school application. Students who have earned high GPA scores have found an open door to both job and graduate school opportunities.
Do I receive credit for my seminary course work?
It is preferable for each student to arrange for college transfer credit before entering the seminary year, either through a regionally accredited school or through a seminary which provides American Council on Education (ACE) credit recommendations. There are ways for students who lack a college transcript to retroactively gain credit for seminary course work for their seminary studies. Students should keep examinations and notes in order to facilitate the earning of these credits.
If I want to finish my degree through a different college, are my credits transferable?
Part of our philosophy is to minimize the need for learning in a non-Torah environment. Completing a degree through Maalot is the solution that has worked for 25 years for more than 2,000 women.
Students can receive a Thomas Edison transcript for all of our courses. The school to which a student transfers will have its own regulations. Consult with its Registrar Office to verify credit transfers. Students can opt to complete their degree through Thomas Edison and include courses taken at another college.
