The Clinical Internship Program

The Clinical Internship Program is the Family Institute’s most intensive program for professional development. Those who successfully complete the Clinical Internship Program of didactic studies and supervised clinical training receive a Certificate in Counseling and Family Therapy, as evidence of having satisfied the requirements of the Family Institute for training, experience, and competence.

An integral part of the prescribed program of didactic coursework and clinical casework is the ongoing individual, group, and live supervision. Special observation rooms equipped with one-way mirrors and video technology are used extensively. Under the supportive supervision of Institute faculty, clinical skills and competent practice are shaped and developed.

In addition to its other didactic requirements, students are expected to complete a minimum of 300 hours of clinical practice at HaMachon L’Mishpacha Counseling Center, 60 hours of individual clinical supervision, 60 hours of live/group supervision, 20 hours of live supervision, and 30 hours of case conferences. Clinical interns are expected to carry an average caseload of 4-6 client-hours a week. The time commitment for full time interns is approximately 12 hours/week over the course of each year. This includes a minimum of one afternoon or evening a week.

Full-time clinical interns can usually complete their Certificate requirements in approximately two years.
