Externship
at the Family Institute is a one-year, 40-hour, postgraduate program of clinical
training intended to provide practitioners with the opportunity for intensive,
small group, professional development in Couple’s Counseling and Family
Therapy.
As a
member of a therapeutic team, externs actively observe the ongoing work of a
senior family therapist, through a one-way mirror. Participants engage in
therapeutic planning during pre-and post-session case conferences and learn
relevant theoretical concepts from a seasoned practitioner through didactic and
video presentations. In addition, externs learn how therapeutic planning and
judgment are actualized in clinical work. The training experience is both
live and dynamic as externs are taught to conceptualize and intervene as couples
and family therapists involved in the challenges and complexities of ongoing
therapeutic work.
Fran
Ackerman is a former faculty member of the Ackerman Institute in NY. She is
on the faculty of The Hebrew University's School of Social Work, is a clinical
supervisor at the Family Institute of Neve Yerushalayim, and has a private
practice in Jerusalem.
