Domestic Violence Project

The Family Institute’s Domestic Violence Unit was established with the support of a grant from the UJA-Federation of New York. It was in response to the sad reality that the Dati/Charedi community is not immune to the problems of domestic abuse. A specially trained domestic violence treatment team provides a wide range of counseling, support, and preventive services for women and children who have experienced the trauma of physical, sexual, or psychological abuse.

Dedicated to preserving the integrity of the family whenever possible, the Domestic Violence Unit is staffed by Dati/Charedi professionals who are sensitive to the cultural values of the religious community. Clients are treated with the fullest discretion allowed by law, and with the high level of respect and confidentiality afforded all clients of the Counseling Center.

Preventing child or spousal abuse is far better than taking the painful steps of protecting those who have already become victimized. To that end, the Family Institute offers educational programs for parents, educators, rabbinic leaders, and paraprofessional religious functionaries in ways to prevent and identify domestic abuse.
